Robert J. "Spud" Bongard, a 33-year resident of Horsham, formerly of Manayunk, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006,
at his residence. He was 76. He was the husband of Betty (Cardamone) Bongard.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Hniedjko) Bongard. He attended
Roxborough High School.
Mr. Bongard was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Warrington and a member of the American
Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert and James; a daughter, Joni Radick;
a daughter-in-law, Carla Bongard; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are
two friends, who were like sons to him, Virgil Cardamone and Paul Johnson, and a dear friend of
13 1/2 years, Bill W. He was preceded in death by a son, James.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, in St. Robert Bellarmine Church,
856 Euclid Ave., Warrington. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, and from
8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, at Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Rosenfeld Cancer Center, 1200 Old York Road,
Abington, PA 19001.
